Holland America Line

Holland America was founded in 1873 as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company (NASM), a shipping and passenger line. Because it provided service to the Americas, it became known as Holland America Line. The company's first ocean liner was the original Rotterdam, which sailed its maiden voyage from the Netherlands to New York City on Oct. 15, 1872. The one-way voyage took 15 days.
By its 25th anniversary, Holland America owned a fleet of six cargo and passenger ships and also provided service between Holland and the Dutch East Indies via the newly-constructed Suez Canal.
The line was a principal carrier of emigrants from Europe to the United States until well after the turn of the century, carrying 850,000 to new lives in the New World.
The company offered its first cruise in 1895; its second cruise, from New York to the Holy Land, was in 1910.
In 1971, Holland America suspended its trans-Atlantic passenger trade and turned to offering cruise vacations full time.
Holland America has carried more than seven million passengers.
And never has the Holland America Five-Star fleet been so attractive. Choose our classic and intimate ms Noordam; the ms Maasdam and her sisters ms Veendam, ms Statendam and ms Ryndam with their dazzling two-tiered dining rooms. Our elegant flagship ms Rotterdam and sister ship ms Amsterdam bring concierge service to its suite guests. The ms Volendam and her sister ship ms Zaandam feature spacious verandah suites that have become so popular in cruising today. The newest ships in the fleet, the cozy ms Prinsendam and our first Vista series ship ms Zuiderdam and ms Oosterdam offer even more verandah stateroom options.
For the ninth consecutive year, Holland America Line has been named the "Best Overall Cruise Value," because we consistently present more than ever dreamed possible in a cruise. A five-star fleet, award-winning entertainment, exceptional cuisine, and an amazing variety of activities for people of all ages.
Holland America also owns Windstar Cruises, which operates four computer-directed luxury sailing cruise ships - Wind Star, Wind Song, Wind
Spirit and Wind Surf - in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Costa Rica.
Holland America Westours is the largest and most experienced cruise and cruisetour operator in Alaska and Canada's Yukon and the ninth largest private motorcoach company in North America. Founded in 1947 as Arctic Alaska Tours, the company originally arranged tours for passengers arriving on Alaska Steamship Company vessels at Seward and Valdez by rail and bus to the Interior and by air to the Arctic. Westours moved to Seattle in 1951 to be closer to its market in the "Lower 48." Westours has been a major subsidiary of Holland America since 1979.
Holland America Westours also owns Gray Line of Alaska, Gray Line of Seattle and several other Gray Line franchises. The company also owns Westmark Hotels and Inns, the largest hotel group in Alaska and Yukon Territory with 14 hotels in 11 communities.
Princess Cruises

Rising from modest beginnings in 1965 with one ship cruising to Mexico, Princess has grown to one of the largest cruise lines in the world. Today, its fleet of 10 ships carries more than 700,000 passengers each year to more worldwide destinations than any other major line.
Princess was catapulted to stardom in 1977 when it became the sea-going star of The Love Boat television series, which introduced millions of viewers to the still-new concept of a sea-going vacation. The company name and famous "seawitch" logo have remained synonymous with cruising ever since.
The company's now famous fleet includes Dawn Princess, Pacific Princess, Regal Princess, Royal Princess, Sun Princess, Grand Princess, Sea Princess, Ocean Princess, Golden Princess and Star Princess. Five additional new vessels will join Princess' fleet by 2004.
Princess ships offer the line's innovative Personal Choice Cruising program, an individualized, unstructured style of cruising that provides a "what you want, when you want" atmosphere of onboard choice and flexibility designed to give passengers the opportunity to customize their cruise vacation to meet their personal interests, needs and desires. Princess introduced the concept of putting the passengers in control of their own cruise experience in the mid-1990s when it introduced the revolutionary Sun-class ships. This emphasis on choice -- of multiple dining locations, flexible entertainment and affordable private balconies -- has since established customized cruising as the touchstone of new ship design for the entire industry. Princess has also distinguished itself by sailing to more worldwide cruise destinations than any other major line. Offering more than 150 itineraries ranging from seven to 72 days, Princess sails to six continents and calls at nearly 260 ports around the world. Destinations include the Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Europe, Mexican Riviera, South America, South Pacific, Hawaii/Tahiti, Asia, India, Africa, Holy Land, Canada/New England, Bermuda and world voyages.
Alaska is a particularly key destination for Princess, where it is the leading cruisetour company. Through its Seattle-based Princess Tours division, Princess operates a wide variety of cruisetours, giving visitors spectacular land and sea experiences in the majestic "Land of the Midnight Sun." Princess is the largest cruise and tour operator in the state with six cruise ships, five riverside wilderness lodges, a fleet of deluxe motorcoaches and luxury Midnight Sun Express Ultra Dome rail cars. The company pioneered the popular Gulf of Alaska route, which offers more of the attractions Alaska is famous for -- including glaciers and wildlife. Gulf cruises connect conveniently and seamlessly to its landside experience, enabling passengers to experience the heart of this great wilderness.
On land, Princess' Adventures Ashore program features thousands of in-port excursions worldwide, and the company's expanding cruisetour offerings enable passengers to combine their cruise with a full land tour in such places as Europe, China, Africa, India, Australia, South America, Alaska and the eastern U.S.
Princess Cruises is part of P&O Princess Cruises plc, one of the largest international cruise companies, which consists of a number of the top cruise brands around the globe -- Princess Cruises; P&O Cruises, the UK's largest premium cruise brand; Aida Cruises, one of Germany's fastest growing cruise companies; the successful P&O Cruises (Australia); Swan Hellenic and Ocean Village in the UK; as well as Seetours and A'ROSA in Germany. Headquartered in London, P&O Princess Cruises is listed on the New York and London stock exchanges with the stock symbol "POC."
